Is Bangius Thermal Baths

The Is Bangius Thermal Baths are a structure built in 1800 on the left bank of the Tirso River in Fordongianus, not far from the Archaeological Area of the Ancient Roman Baths, in the location known as “Is Bangius,” where visitors can enjoy a relaxing and therapeutic bath.

Built directly at the water source, the structure operates entirely naturally. The three pools inside have a pebble bottom that allows water to filter directly from the underlying rock layer, continuously draining into the river through a hole on one side.

The structure comprises three rooms. Inside, there is a small room with seating used as a changing area and, on a lower level, separated by a step, the area housing the spacious hot water pool. The water temperature ranges between 41°C and 43°C and is classified as “hyperthermal, saline – bicarbonate – fluorinated” water. It can be used for therapeutic purposes in rheumatology, orthopedic-traumatology, and dermatology. Additionally, the facility includes toilets and stalls for cold showers.

Service usage guidelines:

To access the baths, visitors need to bring:

  • Slippers
  • Bathrobe or towel
  • Swim cap

Once inside the room, there is a thirty-minute window for changing and taking the bath. Due to the high water temperature, it’s advisable to stay immersed for a maximum of ten minutes. Usage guidelines are outlined in the regulations set by the Municipality, displayed within the facility. Any behavior other than a relaxing bath is not permitted in the pools and may incur fines.
