Book Plot:

It’s not just his strong feelings, the intensity tied to every moment of life, that causes Eros, a young freshman in Literature at the University of Cagliari, to feel breathless. After discovering that his heart problems are linked to a noticeable depression in the sternum, he decides to leave for Turin and undergo surgery there at the beginning of 1971.

In Sardinia, he leaves Linda, a girl who loves him and waits for him, but Eros, torn between anxiety about the future, fear of death, and his passion for studies, is tempted by other loves. In a village in the Valsesia, where he stops before the operation, he meets the beautiful Gabrielle, who hides a troubled and anguished past. In the hospital, he meets Malisa, who loves him from the start, unrequited.

On his hospital bed, before and after the operation, while struggling between a tempting offer from the heart surgeon who will operate on him and his dream of becoming a writer, the magnetic figure of Sister Lia emerges. He is kept company by his mother, a silent witness to agonizing dilemmas: devote himself to only one woman? Plunge into the furnace of the senses?
