Presentation of the book “Lights of Farewells” by Eliano Cau

The Forum Traiani Cooperative is pleased to host author Eliano Cau presenting his latest novel titled “Lights of Farewells”, which features Father Benedetto Loy, a character already known from the author’s previous work, “I am Light and Shadow”, during the highly anticipated meeting of January 13th last year. We look forward to seeing you at this event, in the halls of the Aragonese House, on March 9th at 6 p.m.

Plot: “Lights of Farewells” is a fantasy novel centered around two main characters: Father Benedetto Loy and Cipriana Podda.

Set in the 18th century, in a remote Sardinia between Barigadu and Mandra Olisày, the backdrop is the stage for plausible events, not the chronological narration of authentic events. The easily recognizable locations are historical, as part of the occurrences. It’s the story of a love obsession, a series of emotional conflicts unfolding in both concrete and imaginary time and space; it’s a story of returns, a dilemma that leads nowhere, offering no escape.

In the turbulent ocean of passions, human passion fades away, revealing only, perhaps, a faint glimmer of light: for Cipriana, sacrificing herself on the altar of renunciation, silence, and regret; for Father Loy, who, despite being aware of his selfishness and cowardice, clings to his anchor, to his cross. The faded echo of Bonaventura Licheri, a poet from Neoneli, is barely recognizable, as is the reference to his human adventures: shadows, seductions made tangible by pleasures and afflictions, which show us the protagonist, along with other characters, much in his limitations but also somewhat in his greatness.
